Games can be especially effective in developing empathy by placing players in roles they might not otherwise experience. Unfortunately, creators who take risks in building empathy explicitly into games are not well supported in that work. This article relates the experience of Anna Anthropy, a trans woman who has created two games that place players in difficult situations she encountered during transition and a later hospital stay.
