I’ve been hesitant to read Spider-Man stories since the retcon that erased Peter Parker and Mary Jane’s marriage; I still hold that is a sign of poor editorial and writing prowess. However, I enjoyed the Renew Your Vows mini series and decided to give the launch of The Amazing Spider-Man a shot. Issue #1 (https://comicstore.marvel.com/The-Amazing-Spider-Man-1/digital-comic/40144) opens with Peter Parker in the position of being something of a hybrid of Reed Richards, Tony Stark and the Peter we know and love. The first story was fun, and it sets up a genuinely interesting status quo. The verdict is still out for me about whether this is going to be a book I’ll enjoy as much as the Spider-Gwen or Silk ones but it’ll get an arc to win me over.
The backup stories that tease at the Spider-Woman and Silk books definitely connected more for me. Those are two I’ll be reading for sure.
