Gary is the only leadership candidate for the Nova Scotia NDP to release a policy statement. At 10 pages it’s not a sprawling document, but maybe you don’t enjoy reading minutia of good policy like I do. Some of the highlights include a shift from a regressive tax system to a progressive tax system (read: dropping sales tax and having those with more wealth shoulder more tax responsibility), implementing an anti-poverty program, implementing a $15 minimum wage, securing public health care, extending MSI to cover dental care and establishing strong environmental stewardship.
“Our plan encompasses seven key areas: environmental justice, social justice, fiscal strength, democracy, health care, economic development, and education. It includes bold steps toward narrowing the income gap and opening the door to opportunity for our people.”
