For years the sole Valley of the Giants album has been a favourite of mine. Performers from some of my favourite bands participated in the recording, and the two tracks featuring Deidre Smith on vocals, “Westworld” and “Bala Bay Inn”, are standouts. “Whaling Tale” sometimes still gives me goosebumps 100 listens in. This is a great record on its own, and offers a gateway to some stellar bands.
Valley of the Giants is a Canadian post-rock supergroup composed of members from Broken Social Scene, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Silver Mt. Zion, Do Make Say Think, Shalabi Effect and Strawberry. Stylistically, Valley of the Giants blends rock with elements of folk and world music.
