The Ferris Wheel Office

I imagine the delights of being able to pop in to the local Ferris Wheel office once a week and enjoying a great view while working. If only this could be spread wide.

The COVID-19 pandemic pushed a bunch of innovations into existence that sadly might fall to the wayside. Ferris Wheel offices shouldn’t be one of them. In October last year Rain Noe published “Japanese Amusement Park Turns Ferris Wheel Into Wi-Fi Enabled Remote Workspace” in Core77 and outlined a delightful way to work I’d happily take up instead of my home office now and then.

Now Yomiuriland has launched a new initiative focused on the office economy. The park’s administrators have wired the ferris wheel up with wi-fi, and are renting it out to companies who want to treat their workers to a social-distancing “workation.” For ¥1,900 (USD $18) per worker, employees of participating companies can choose to work from the ferris wheel or an outdoor lounge at the swimming pool. And after work, they get free access to the driving range, to golf off some steam.
