I wrapped up the year still being thrilled with the growth and engagement on Mastodon. Here’s what I boosted and shared this past week.

We tried to keep gifts minimal, but Celestine was excited to find Robert Munsch books left by Santa in her stocking. I loved these books when I was a kid, so I’m looking forward to reading Murmel, Murmel, Murmel with her.
Today Celestine and I went for a walk and finally had a chance to see the beautiful Viola Desmond art installation on Gottingen. Viola’s story is important for understanding how segregation created great harm here in Nova Scotia and Canada as a whole. There are lasting hardships this province and city haven’t done enough to address and this piece celebrates resistance.
Mike Duncan‘s Revolutions podcast has been a constant for me since 2013. It’s a wonderful history podcast that delves deep into revolutions from the English to the Russian Revolution. Before that, his History of Rome was a delight. Listening to the last episode today was tough. I will miss Mike’s insights and exhaustive research. Mike’s admission to being brought left by the work was heartening.
Today during a quiet hour I played a bit of Xenoblade Chronicles X while drinking a new tea. After playing a bit in the endgame, I started a new game. I was surprised to encounter the extensive character creation in that game again. This will be such a wonderful experience when it finally comes to Switch, but for now I’ll dip in now and then to experience this world again.
In March I had my last haircut with a stylist who had been cutting my hair for more than a decade, as she moved away from the city. I usually had a cut every 12 weeks like clockwork, but had more than 9 months between cuts for the first time in more than 10 years as I didn’t seek out a new stylist. My hair was the longest it had been in as much time this morning. At noon I tried a new stylist nearby and now have the shortest hair I’ve had in many years.
I did a 10 km run this morning to and around Point Pleasant Park and encountered these two. it’s fantastic weather to close out the year and so nice to get some time along the shore and amid trees.
Back in 2007 I visited the Stewiacke mastodon and offered it some ice cream. I’m not saying that offering resulted in this wonderful mess, but I’m also not not saying that.
