Flooding from extraordinary amounts of rain did tremendous damage to Nova Scotia, where I live. Lives were lost and damage to property was extensive. We were fortunate to be untouched here.
One of the overlooked aspects of this disaster is the destructive decision-making by our current conservative government. They used emergency powers from wildfires earlier this year to refill an artificial lake that was ordered emptied by federal regulations with the excuse the water was needed for firefighting (it was never requested by any firefighting service and the risk of wildfires here is much reduced), and then failed to open the aboiteau to drain the water when heavy rains were forecast. This resulted in the avoidable flooding of the downtown in the town of Windsor. The lake is championed by commercial interests but keeping it filled poses risks to the environment and people.
How2Wrestling is a podcast that typically does deep dives into particular wrestlers. Their latest is on the troubling Doink the Clown. The archives have coverage of performers such as Jake the Snake, Luna Vachon, Dusty Rhodes, Colt Cabana, Orange Cassidy, Brett Hart, and The Young Bucks.
Thursday I received a new Raspberry Pi 4 Model B/4GB to replace the 1GB model I’ve been using to host my Akkoma instance and used before for some other self-hosted projects. It was such a seamless process to upgrade. I needed to swap it into my case, swap in my existing SD card, and change port forwarding but that was it. Now everything is running flawlessly without the hiccups the older hardware had.
I’ll probably use the old Pi to run OpenMediaVault rather than also have that running on the new Pi.
