This week feels like there was a particular richness to what was happening on the fediverse.

Today we went to Spryfield for the day. We hiked along Long Lake, took a two hour family kayak trip on the lake, played at an arcade, and took Celestine to an indoor playground. Long Lake has been a favourite spot of mine for years, but I hadn’t explored Spryfield much before. It’s becoming a favourite spot for my family to visit and we haven’t even made it to the wave pool yet.
Today I spotted this Anna Mae Pictou Aquash mural for the first time on Agricola Street.
I wasn’t able to find any coverage of it being installed, but the article from last year outlines the work done by artists Rebecca Cope and Tayla Paul.
People nearby have been painting the windows of their home with the worm Womr for years, and it’s always a delight to spot a new piece featuring their adventures. Recently a new piece saying “Womr is moving” was added. I wonder where Womr will end up. Will we see them somewhere else in the city or will they be traveling afar? I hope I’ll see Womr again.
Giving Hikaru Shida the win for the AEW Women’s World Championship was a brilliant main event choice for Dynamite 200. There couldn’t have been a better feel good moment to end the show.
Her first championship run to empty arenas during the early pandemic was fantastic and I’m excited to see her win over huge crowds like the 80,000+ All In Wembley show this month.
Google Domains was recently sold to Squarespace, and I was planning on moving to a new registrar when each of my domains came up for renewal, but WordPress sent out an offer that includes a year extension to registration. Seems like a good enough offer that I’m moving all of them now. I had a $37/year vanity domain I was going to let expire in a couple days, but I’ll keep it around for another year if the registration is free.
I got around to setting up OpenMediaVault this morning on my old Pi 4 1GB. Setup was a breeze using instructions from Raspberry Tips and I had my storage available on the home network in about 15 minutes.
I was able to stop in at Sir Charles Tupper School this week to properly capture this mural that had been obscured by a lift when I last visited about 3 weeks back.
Years back I got serious about ensuring I was doing forefoot running. It has kept me injury-free and enjoying my runs.
I experimented with a bunch of minimalist shoes and enjoyed some of them quite a lot. Most of them can be much more expensive than they’re worth, wearing out in a season even when costing more than $100. I’m a big believer in being pragmatic and frugal about gear for running and settled on using sandals whenever the weather supports it. This summer I’ve been using some less minimal sub-$40 CAD sandals daily, with minimal xeroshoes sandals as backup.
