Matthew Sweet

“You don’t wanna die…but living gets you down…we want you to act like nothing’s wrong…even though you heard a sound…” ~ Ugly Truth by Matthew Sweet
Matthew Sweet is awesome! LOL No, seriously, he’s one of the most underrated pop/rock singers/lyricists/musicians of our time. His music is rather paradoxical. He writes near lovesongs about suicide like “Someone To Pull The Trigger”.
His music is certainly eclectic. His “Inside” album was almost totally a pop album. “Girlfriend” was pop rock that’s considered classic now. Altered Beast and Son of A. Beast were mostly what was considered alternative but was rock. And his newer albums strike a balance between all those.
Anyway, I really respect his ability to write pop songs that have depth and versitility. It’s hard for me to describe. He was one of the first artists that I really listened to besides the classic rock that I was used to(Collective Soul was first and then Matthew).
100% Fun was the first CD by him that I got and it really helped with some of that transition that I went through way back then between whatever I was and whatever I was after that. LOL Make any sense? Likely not. He made me think, I guess that’s the biggest influence he had on my development.
Plus, he was one of the first good new artists that I listened to. He was one of those artists that I felt totally sure that I could buy their album without fear of it being a let down or a step back. Yep, Matthew Sweet and Collective Soul led me to my music junkie state. LOL
Guess that’s all for now. Oh, be sure to check him out. His site is at http://www.matthewsweet.com.
