…in the distance she’s constantly calling…

Another day of work, come home, eat, talk to Ashley some, sleep for an hour so I can talk to Ashley longer, read a book, brush my teeth and talk to Ashley. Everything after work is rather nice šŸ™‚
I’ve finally started reading The Onion Girl by Charles de Lint again. I’ve been such an anti-book worm this summer compared to my usual summer reading habits.
You all need to read this book though! It’s so great. One thing about de Lint’s characters is that I can always relate people I know to the characters very directly. He writes some of the most realistic characters I’ve ever read, yet he writes urban fantasy or “mythic fiction”, which has a surreal quality, while still based strongly in reality… The ways he protrays the problems of his characters are so real. Jilly, the protagonist of The Onion Girl, grew up with an alcoholic mother. The way he described the teacher as a proper influence in contrast to the mother who ripped up Jilly’s drawings… That’s one thing he does well, protraying people who have had a very difficult past, yet have struggled to over come it.
