Awake Moments Later

Awake Moments Later

Will my eyes never close now?
Can I ever fall asleep
With the crashing waves of you
Flowing around in my head?

It’s not been more than hours
Yet I yearn to have you near
To feel the soft breeze around
As when your voice brushed my ears

Now there’s emptiness within
Without you inside my heart
Filling with hope and wonder
Every open cave of mine

It hasn’t been that long yet
Since I saw the light you hide
Somewhere deep within your soul
But I pray to see your eyes

Thoughts disolve the sleep I need
Tiredness means nothing though
Aching and longing are more
With this void for them to fill

The waves seep slowly from eyes
A slow, inverted ocean
Flowing back into rivers
Fading coldly as they fall

Where have you been hidden now?
You were all I could see then
Now I cling to memories
Of the moments that just passed

Sleep drifts into me at last
The white clouds of sleep whisper
Nothing but your ringing name
Echoing as drops of rain
