After our last class Nathan and I walked towards Citadel Hill… Grabbed some lunch on the way and were through the gate by 1:30… We met up with Sascha and Shane not long after that… We walked around some and browsed the vendors and merch places… Found out the schedule…
52 Minutes – This act was simply crap… a really bad punk band…
Human – this was actually a pretty good band… I knew their one single because I had heard it numerous times on Q104…
Shamus – these guys were odd… not a bad band but nothing compared to Human…
Blackout – these guys were just some loud punk/metal that was just lame… during their set we met up with a friend from highschool, Jill Peterson. Sascha and I talked for a little while with her… Then we ran into Amanda Keen… she ran up behind me yelling “Jesus!” lol She had seen me from afar and recognized me. It was cool to see those two again…
Inland – by this time the crowd had gotten fairly large but didn’t get into this band as much as I thought they should have… they were just a really good old school rock band… traditional but great
The Heelwalkers – this band left no impression on me at all, really… very mediocre… we just sat in the front of the other stage for this one

Spek – This is where my day really started to get interesting… Spek is a brittish rap/r&b artist but he actually has a cool band… the show was really great… he even made up a rhyme on the spot by asking Sascha for his name… it was great…
After that show we went to the side of the stage and saw the famale vocalist that sang with Spek… She was talking to her parents who came from PEI to see her play… I think her name is spelled Deirdre, but I’m not sure… that’s wht I’ll call her for now untill I have the proper spelling. Anyway, we started talking to her and then Spek and the rest came out and we were introduced to all of them… Sashca and Shane wanted to stay for Martina Sorbara so Nathan and I offered to take Deirdre to the nearest store to buy some cigarettes for her and one of the guys from the band… We did that, talking all the way about just random things… it was really fun… she turned out to be a lot like us as far as musical tastes go, and just everything in general and she had great stories… I must retell the gravol one someday…
Eventually we got back and found Spek and the rest… hung out with them for a while… We then went with with her into the beer garden with some Molson that she got from the rider… yep, beer on the venue’s account, pretty sweet… Sadly, though, even though she was in a band, they eventually saw that we were drinking from cans and told us we couldn’t drink it in there… then we took a walk over to the empty part of the hill and sat down to talk… heard more stories(the gravol + church camp story was told here)… then we started taking photos with my camera, just of the 3 of us and the sun… I ran out of film so we went to the store again for a disposable camera… more stories and talking about things… generally just having a blast walking around…
We went into one bar that she used to play at in Strawberry, her real band(she told us about Spek and how he was basicly just a gig to make ends meet and that he was actually kinda arrogant…)… We made it back to the hill and talked to one of the people giving out free chips who really admired Deirdre… we took some photos with her and more of just the three of us before going over to the stage to see Bug Sugar… Nathan, Deirdre, and I walked through the crowd until we were fairly close to the stage… Big Sugar had the best show there by far!!! They are an incredible band with so many great songs…
During their last song we went backstage with Deirdre and after a bit of hassle we managed to get past security…. We took Nathan’s friend Ted with us and he left to get photos for us… (Ted is Tara Slone of Joydrop’s brother… he told us there that the band is breaking up and that Tara will be going solo) We then went to the dressing rooms to hang with Spek and others, take photos and be given a mission.
We were asked to go get some beer for the band… So off Nathan, Deirdre and I went on an exciting run through the streets again to find the nearest liquor store… We got some Clancy’s and headed back… however, the security wouldn’t let us take it backstage because “it’s not a Molson product” damn Beer Nazis! πŸ˜› Well, with Spek and his band already gone Deirdre and I decided to head to the Marquee and skip the last four acts… we ran into Sascha and Shane so we took them with us… Big Sugar and the Trews were playing there and we wou;d rather see Big Sugar again than Sloan… the walk was cool, with more stories and fun…
We waited around the Marquee again and Deirdre told us about when she used to play there… Her band Strawberry was screwed over by a big label so they haven’t released anything lately… they have 4 completed albums done in the last two years that are fully recorded but not available to the public… she said she would send Nathan and I some of them when she gets back. We exchanged e-mail and snail mail addresses so that we can send her photos and she can send us music πŸ™‚ We were having a great time… She even mentioned about knowing Buck 65 and wishing she didn’t have a flight tomorrow so that she could go see him with us today…
We eventually went in and saw The Trews(they were formerly called Trowser)… Sadly, Deirdre was too tired by then to stay for Big Sugar so she went back to her hotel room… Sascha’s back was bothering him so he went to Shane’s truck to lie down… Shane and I stayed for Big Sugar and it so greatly surpassed all other acts I had seen that day…. it was so incredible… even better than the last time I saw them… During the show Spek, members of The Trews and The New Deal all did songs with Gordie Johnson and the boys… it was sweet!
By the end of the show I was totally drianed from all the energy the day had taken… so I got Shane to drive me home, had a shower, checked some things online and then slept…

I’ll be leaving in 50 minutes for the second day of Edgefest… I doubt it will be as fun as yesterday, but we’ll see…
