Random?

I posted the following on the P-O-E.com bbs:

There’s plenty of RANDOM in the world, just too many distractions like school keeping the words from ending up here.

House of Leaves is the greatest book made in the last 30 years. I’m rereading it when I can find time and it’s still BRILLIANT!

Kids can’t express their feelings about EVIL DICTATOR BUSH on their clothing in many places in the US, it seems. I say everyone should welcome commentary like that. Evil dictators like EVIL DICTATOR BUSH must be opposed with every bit of art, words, and courage we can muster.

I went for a long walk today. It’s my last day here in the country so I wanted to enjoy the fresh air and trees while I can. Even living in a city as clean and tree-filled as Halifax, there’s something special about returning to the perfectly clean aired country in the middle of winter and walking in the snow-filled forests of beautiful rural Nova Scotia. I’ve been all over North America(in one summer I went from coast to coast to coast by car, from NS to Cali.) and nothing compares to the beauty of people and land that we have here. The only place that came close was the mountains. But there wasn’t enough ocean there.

I’m listening to The Wallflowers. They’re a great band…

Does anyone know if Fastball has a new album in the works? I remember they had a song on one album that featured Poe.

My friend Jeff replied to the italicized part with this:

You’re moving out of Canada?

Crazy Jeff. Where else would I ever want to live? (Aside from the fact that I would move near Ashley in an instant if I could, and that I’d love to live as a gypsy and just travel the world writing and taking photos) Canada is by far the greatest place to live in all the world(just ask anyone who has spent real time here, and experienced the many amazing and diverse places in this beautiful country).

Back to the city tomorrow… It will be both nice to return there and sad that I have to leave this place so soon. It really is nice here, as much as I may be annoyed by the lack of quality net access and access to just about anything for that matter, it’s really great.

Here’s my goal to live the gypsy life: Somehow(through saving, selling or otherwise) I’ll come up with $50,000-100,000 and take a year to travel across North America… It’ll take a few years, at least, likely even past getting my degree… but as soon as I can I want to do this. In 1994 I did a similar trip with my parents and sister over 2 months and it left a lasting impression on me… A seed of wanderlust was planted when I saw the mountains, the pacific, the redwoods, the people. There’s a world out there that most people never experience that I did in 2 short months. And if I could have another 12 now that I’m more aware of life and the world, I think it could allow me to create something very meaningful. Maybe I could finalize the story that has haunted me for years then, the one I write small pieces of every now and then… Or at least it will give me a great road story to relate to you all. A year of exciting LJ reading? I’m ready to try it all as soon as I can. Perhaps with some friends and at least Ashley… I want to see the sunset in a hundred different places, and the stars from many slight angles… I want to be of the world and not just a small, though very beautiful peninsula.
