“On Sunday evening people in every corner of the globe will shine beacons of light throughout the world. May our candles rekindle the light of reason and hope so that war will be averted in Iraq and peace will prevail in the world.” — Archbishop Desmond Tutu

The vigil tonight was quite nice. It’s the first protest I’ve been able to attend and, while the numbers were not huge(I’d say between 100 and 200), the diversity of people was great. People from very advanced age(80, perhaps) to young children and everywhere in that range were in attendance. It’s great to know that there are others around the entire world that oppose this unjust and evil war. There was a large banner signed by hundreds that will be given as a gift to the United States as a statement that we oppose this war. It’s for those in favor of peace, and not the warmongering few.
The air was bitterly cold, but we all stood there and froze, holding our candles and knowing that small suffering is nothing compared to that which we are attempting to prevent. For most of the vigil the crowd was silent, a preemptive morning for the terrible war Evil Dictator Bush is about to unleash. The war we are obligated to oppose as compassionate humans.

While one woman was speaking to television reporters I was standing in the background. I thought that I might be on the news, and sure enough by long red hair and black trench made it into at least one segment of CTV news. Sascha told me it was on and I was able to turn on the tv just in time to see myself. Look for me in the media, for I am involved. Over 6400 vigils in 129 countries took place this past day. 24 hours of candle light swept a globe which is against this proposed holocaust. This means something, even if Evil Dictator Bush is able to wage his war. He may declare war tomorrow, but our war of compassion is ongoing. We will oppose this evil no matter the odds.

Drink deep of the river of truth, drink eternal. A revolution is on the way. Discard your grey apathy and gain a true voice at last. Bring peace by true resistance. Gain freedom by removing evil men and women from power. The future can belong to the people, and not the Midas-like murders and oppressors. Many minds are clouded and it’s time to awaken compassion and awareness. It is a time for revolution.

Begin today.
