There is now no doubt where Canada stands

PM says lack of UN resolution means Canada won’t fight in Iraq

OTTAWA – Ottawa has rejected any Canadian participation in a U.S.-led assault on Iraq.

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien made the announcement on Monday, as the House of Commons resumed sitting after a two-week break.

Chrétien says without the backing of the United Nations, Canada can’t go along with any war initiative.

“The terrorist risk will, if anything, be greater than before as a consequence of war. So for us to cut and run when the terrorism risk is greater would not be compatible with Canadian traditions,” he said.

Critics have accused Chrétien of wavering and waffling on his position. There is now no doubt where Canada stands.

Canada stands for peace and for acting with world bodies, not as rogue states.

  1. Ah, I’m glad you posted this. It eased me slightly at my anxiety surrounding this war.

I can’t open my eyes to the barbaric scenes on the tv, the mobs of troops guns in hands, it seems to..historic, like it can’t rightfully happen now, it’s sick so many could fall. So many fathers, mothers, wives, husbands, so many..children.

    1. My anxiety is still high. Like you said, so many innocents will die because of this war.

Those of us who care are still fighting this and will until the very last day. Apathy costs us our humanity, so we can not stand idly by even though it seems hopeless.

  2. shrub is a moron, he is fucking all the americans over. lets just say that im going to resume eating my french toast and french fries. not all americans are morons.
