Ed and Dean were at 96 rock for an interview 4/30. Collective Soul will begin recording the tentatively titled “Youth” on May 5th. Their performance at Music Midtown on May 3 will include some new material! As to the title of Youth, “we’ve reached a point where we’re not youthful anymore, just at heart” drawing on the influences of youth.
The website is currently in reformat and redesign “as well as their lives”.
The band line-up is Ed Roland, Dean Roland, Will Turpin and Shane Evans with Joel Kosche for live performances.
Youth is tentatively scheduled for release the beginning of 2004, a rawer album than Dosage or Blender, less effects…guitar driven.
While at 99x 5/1 Ed and Dean discussed Ed’s living in Arizona. They clarified they DID record before, but now are starting again “getting it right”
Regarding the trials of the last couple years, Ed doesn’t want to re-live the past, but maybe many years from now would consider creating a memoir of sorts. For now he is as happy as he could be, they all are. “Time heals all”, he just wants to enjoy this moment.
They have raised the capital in order to distribute the new cd independently, and are figuring out if that is the route they want to go. He is not afraid to take this chance.
On a final note Ed said “I PROMISE we are doing the record now”
Collective Soul as indie group? I think that would be brilliant! They have one of the tightest fan bases in music, and they certainly have the history to continue to produce amazing albums. After being screwed around by Atlantic, they deserve their freedom and the chance to get their music back out there.
