Goodbye Mr. Chrétien

What kind of Canadian would I be if I did not lament the end of one of Canada’s finest eras, the reign of Prime Minister Jean Chretien. His contributions to our nation and to the world were numerous and will not be soon forgotten. He strengthened our nation and gifted us with a great sense of optimism for our future. He did make some serious mistakes, and there can be no condoning those, but overall he was a tremendous leader who I was proud to support.
Our new Prime Minister, Paul Martin, seems to be a much less desirable leader, having a distinct center-right (or perhaps center-left if one is generous) leaning, but I sincerely hope her will prove to be a leader who can continue the great work his predecessor began. I fear, however, especially in his dealings with the US, that he has taken some positions that will prove quite harmful to all of us. We are at a cross road in Canadian history, of that there can be little doubt. I do hope we will end up taking the high road.
My vote will still be going toward the NDP, because I believe in their policies far more than the Liberals, and leagues more than the united right. I definitely feel they must become a stronger opposition now that the only other remotely viable opposition is completely dead. There is no way I would want to see the new conservative party have any sort of power.
I’m sure the elections in 2004 will prove to be very interesting after all this change has taken place. I hope Canadians will see it as a time for positive assertions of our wish to create a strong nation and benefit others.

  1. Amen Apollo, he did make some bad mistakes. But all in all our Econamy is stronger and I do feel that our country has bennifited very much under his leadership. Paul Martin knows how to take care of money, but I agree he is much more right wing then I would like. Although he is still a Liberal, and not a Consertive. YOu are right 2004 will be an interesting year.
Peace Out my NDP brother. People seem to be afraid of the NDP though 😛
