I’ll be adopting a 3 month old cat today from one of my co-workers. I’ve never had a cat before, so I’d appreciate some tips (Ilea, I’m looking your way here, especially).
And I’m going to be renaming him. Anyone have some name suggestions? I’m leaning toward an Indian name of some sort.

What was his original name? If he’s been hearing it for a while he might be used to it by now…
“Little Tit.” I’m going to give the little fellow some more class from the start.
Cat? Oh! I want to come seeeee it! His name has to be ridiculously long, but then shortened for convienence. Like my Prince Carlos The Cheat and Captain Deadbird Mahoot IV! Speaking of Mahhot, he’s trying to put in his two cents about a name, but I don’t speak cat.
You must come visit some time then. I will try to share a photo tonight, at least.
I’m still undecided about a name. I may have to wait until I meet it to choose a name. I don’t think I’ve even asked what color it is.

I have a million kitties. Three that live with me and Seven at my dad’s house that domestic and then about five barn cats. So in total we have fifteen cats or so (we just lost one in june to cancer too.)
There is a lot of pet care but Cats essiently can take care of themselves. Make sure the first thing you show your new friend when he gets home is the litter box, he needs to know where the litter box is, or he’ll decide it for himself.
he’s three months old, so he’s still new to the world. 🙂 Toys, and lots of love. He might not be ready for an hour of cuddling, he might want to just bounce around and frolick everywhere, that’s okay too. Just make sure to keep his lil needle nails trim. you can get a nail trimmer at your local pet store. That way, they can run around and jump everywhere and bring no harm to your belongings, or anything like that. Just cut off the ends, you’ll notice the pink inside, you don’t need to cut close to it. Just the sharp part. Hmm, food? Kitten Chow. I’d stay away from IAMS, and go towards something like Purina or Science Diet, I’m not sure what they sell in canada so you should be more than okay. Kitties need to eat a lot of food, not a WHOLE lot but two/three times a day, because they’re still growing. Regulation on the food isn’t too neccessary at this age (unless you have a tubby like our lil Ceasar!)
Names? Tacoma is a pretty name. here is one site I found. Not many, but you might be able to find something. you might find more success there. it says female names, but I think somewhere in there you can find male names too. I hope that helps.

As for names, I actually meant Indian as in from India. I’ve been on a yoga exploration lately and the words have been fun to learn.

One more thing, though: scratching post. And show him what it’s for.

I’ll definitely look into a scratching post if he isn’t coming with one. His former servant is bringing a bunch of goodies for him.
I recommend two kittens. Where your away from home a lot, two cats can keep eachother company. Instead of a single cat thinking, “What can I do with that Futon?”, you can get two cats that think, “I’m going to bite my borthers tail and watch what happens!”
Also, ever think of naming your cat, Mahat?
I’ll see how one goes and take it from there. Word is that this little fellow is well behaved and doesn’t get into trouble unless he attacks cacti.

What kind of tips are you looking for? Raw meat is VERY good for cats intestinal health. Don’t feed a lots of canned food, feed a kibble that is low in ash. Get it neutered/spayed. Indoor cats are safe happy cats.
I also suggest joining, which is a good place to ask questions on animal care and health. Also is available, but there’s a fairly high level of stupid in there. :S
While I’m not so much a cat person, my good friend has NINE of them. 😀 She’s my resident expert.

Well, the chance of a vegetarian like me having raw meet around is pretty slim. The little fellow will have healthy food, but no dripping blood, I suspect.

While you’re vegetarian, please remember that your cat is a carnivore and still requires meat. Whether it’s raw or not, make sure that his food has meat (and not a by product) as the main ingredient.
Oh yeah, I wouldn’t deprive him of anything.
You’d be surprised how many people think that they should inflict their beliefs onto their animals. I’ve dealt with many dog owners who won’t let their dogs eat meat because they feel it is wrong. 🙁

I have no suggestions, I’m not very good at that kind of thing. My cat’s name is psycho. I named her when I was 8. If I get another one far in the future, I’m going to name it Bodie.
