We spotted a northeastern pine sawyer while camping today. Those antennae are so impressive.

When I was a kid, we would stay at E&F Webber Lakeside Park on Lake Charlotte every summer. I hadn’t been back since moving out of my parents’ home.

This weekend I went again with Celestine and Tonet and was struck by how many things hadn’t changed in 25 years. The front office and gate immediately felt familiar and we ended up at a camp site by the washroom where we stayed many times. I immediately felt at home going out on the lake.

Taking Celestine here like my parents took me felt special.

The new things at Lake Charlotte were as nice as the familiar. A nice, mossy hiking trail has recently been added. Progress pride flags had prominent, surprising places around. Seeing Celestine enjoying time in the lake warned my heart. Being there with her and Tonet layered new memories over the old.

Today I played the second quest of HeroQuest: First Light, taking turns between laundry tasks.

Cloudcry the barbarian, Echostone the dwarf, Melody the elf, and Harmony the wizard had their first adventure on the reverse map that features underground chambers. Portals throughout the dungeon kept things interesting and made traversal easier once all locations were explored. They also battled a dragon for the first time and barely survived.

Having fresh HQ experiences has been fun.

I finally got to pass Kristen De Palma’s Slowly, Slowly garden mural during a run at the waterfront this morning. What a beauty!

Tonight I started watching The Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers from the beginning. I watched a handful of episodes countless times as a kid but now I’m planning on taking in all of them as part of my Appendix NO.

Episode 1 introduces family man Zachary Foxx, who fights a multi-species space pirate crew that initially sides with the evil empire and their queen before fleeing and abducting Foxx’s wife. Great spaceships and interesting alien species were highlights.

The voice work and some animation choices definitely veered into the wacky. One pirate alien of the little green variety sprouted an umbrella from their headset.

The few scenes on the alien planet made the agrarian world seem interesting.

The supporting cast of a family and alien ambassadors grounded the story.

There’s already a lightsaber being wielded!
