This week lots of great art popped up on the fediverse to boost and I was revelling in some of my favorite things.
A battle map for D&D shows characters engaged in combat and a ghost in another room.

This week lots of great art popped up on the fediverse to boost and I was revelling in some of my favorite things.

The game Likewise! was another party game that went over well at big gatherings I hosted. It was all about reading the room and understanding perspectives, but the mechanics were simple.

I’ll be dropping it off in a little library for some other players to discover and hopefully have a great time playing.

The components of the game Likewise! are laid out on a bed. Rules, a scoreboard, a die, markers, paddles, and cards are present.

I watched the third episode of Galaxy Rangers and had a mixed experience. A stagecoach robbery, alien disguises, hunting a robot housing secret data, and dynamic fight scenes were all great adventure fodder, but the silly, unfunny bits inserted alongside that dragged things down.

The Zanguil costumes were a definite highlight for me.

The steeds used by each faction were another fun part of this episode that could inspire similar diversity in a game of Neon Odyssey.

The rangers, of course, had their magnificent robot horses.

Alien raiders had large bipedal mounts.

Bird-like horses pulled the stagecoach.

Robotic soldiers of the empire had bug-like horned mounts.

The places were rich with potential.

The desert landscape had structures hinting at a civilization ruined by the empire.

A domed city had pink surveillance drones flying about.

A bar and grill featured an alien musical duo playing strange, futuristic instruments with their mouths.

The object sought by the rangers provided a great hook. A robot holding secrets could be elusive in multiple ways, especially in the form of a doomsaying bird.

This week there are two incredible new albums I’m thrilled to listen to over and over:

Orville Peck’s Mule

beabadoobee’ Pylon

Both would be album of the year contenders for me, and probably career highs for both, but I’d give the edge to Orville Peck.

Hawksley Workman’s Autumn’s Here is a song I play every year around this time. This live performance feels perfect for stepping on dried leaves.

Last night we had a D&D session where our characters met a friendly cleaner ghost, explored a tomb, and fought some lost sorrowsworn. We have a door puzzle ahead of us for next time.

The second episode of Cowboy Bebop toned down the flashy sci-fi elements and brought a story of rescuing a stolen dog and bringing the thief to justice.

The rescue happened on Mars, the dog was a data dog that was genetically engineered to house data, and martial arts combat and vehicle chases were involved.

I really appreciate the environments depicted in the show, and the details make them feel lived in.

That is something to strive for when I run Neon Odyssey.
