This was a week of indulgence during my time on the fediverse and of adventure outside of it.

I had enough time to play through the next First Light quest in HeroQuest this afternoon. I used the app alone again rather than have the time taken up with setting up and putting away all the components.
This quest went smoothly, and Echostone left the tomb with artifacts and gear that make him a formidable dwarven warrior. I finally got a crossbow for Cloudcry to give the barbarian a ranged option with the loot everyone gathered.
Our visit to the Annapolis Valley yesterday included lunch at Kings Arms Pub by the glow of their stained glass windows, taking in some beautiful murals (including a magnificent building fruit tree piece by Miyoshi Kondo), a visit to the corn maze and haunted house at Noggins Corner Farm, and general soaking in of the autumn ambiance.
The Pumpkin People Festival drew us there, but there was so much else to delight us.
It has been a lot of fun playing HeroQuest on tabletops again this year, and I’m optimistic about a new digital edition of the game that was just announced.
It looks like it will faithfully capture the experience of the board game. It will be available first on PC, probably next year, but hopfully in the coming years it will come to more accessible platforms and introduce new players to the game.
I started The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom when it was released but set it aside to play Xenoblade Chronicles X. I finally returned to playing the game this month and wrapped up the story.
I love how it blended the visual charm of Link’s Awakening with the versatile and creative gameplay of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. I don’t think it was a perfect expression of those two best forms of Zelda, but I had a lot of fun with the game.
I became absolutely obsessed with Netherwilds’ debut album, Peasant Rising. It has loads of metal silliness, but it’s also brimming with heartfelt advocacy for social justice.
The track “Ballad of Sir Gregory”, a collaboration with Boy Jr., was the early highlight for me. It’s a wonderfully trans-affirming earworm that I couldn’t get enough of.
