Now that I set you up I’ll begin the story of my day. 😀
I was up around 10, had a shower, checked e-mails, all that sorta thing…. ate lunch… walked to the CS building for CAPA…. hung with Mark, Nathan and Ryan, doing CAPA, talking about music, video games, random things that only we would talk about.
—————————
A homeless person who Nathan and I came across this week said the following: “Spare some change for marijuana?” At least he was honest. 😛
—————————
After Mark left Ryan, Nathan and I went to dinner(I paid, aren’t I nice?) and then played some LotR in the SUB before Ryan drove us to the Marquee at 8:30(Ryan has an awesome Jetta lol The blue and red lights inside made me happy 😉 ). We were quite early so we walked around downtown talking about the (un)usual random things. We finally went inside and sat at a table… listened to the music coming through the sound system until Buck 65 came on. Then we had to go to the floor.
He was so funny! His rapping about food, being a well endowed centuar(the coolest song he did) and hilarious stories kept us laughing while his scratching was jawdropping :D.
Post Buck 65 set we moved to the front of the floor and waited…. the usual be hit by the colored lights and watch the stage crew moments.

Then Joydrop took the stage… Nathan and I were front row, right between Tara Sloan(vocalist and officially “Canada’s hottest women in music”, or, in Nathan’s words, “Ted’s sister is hot!”) and Tom MacKay(the bass player). Poor Nathan was tired and just stood there while I rocked out and enjoyed the show.

It was so great to be that close to another of my favorite bands, to know every word of every song they played. 😀 I love concerts! They played every song I had wanted to hear… “Over+Under”, “Beautiful”, “Spiders”, “Cocoon”, “Dog Star Radio”, “Expiry Dates”, “Thick Skin”, “American Dream Girl”, “Sometimes Wanna Die”, “Viberate”, “Life on the Sun”, “Swan Song”, “Do You Believe”… and a handfull of other songs. And I loved them all! 😀 Tara closed the show with the use of an instrument that I have no clue how to describe or name…. but it’s the harp-like electronic instrument that you can play by moving your and in the air…. only once she finished with her hand she used her hair! It was so damn cool to see someone headbang and create music with her hair!

(This is almost exactly how Tara looked tonight…. except she had red streaks in her hair… had on a red shirt and jeans… even the locket)
After that they came back on for the encore…. started with “Spiders” and ended with “Dogstar Radio”(I forget which song they did between those two). I was completely satisfied after this show. It’s going to be remembered as one of the 5 best I’ve been to(Collective Soul/Big Wreck/Matthew Good Band, Big Sugar/Trouser, Summersault 2001 and then Joydrop).
After the concert Nathan and I walked outside and called his grandfather, who gave us a drive here so Nathan could pick up his bookbag and poster(we took the ad posters this afternoon :D). And that’s my day…

All day I was thinking about Ashley… I miss her so much. I really can’t wait to be able to talk to her again. Two days seems so long….
I love her with all my heart…

I saw Joydrop back in October, they played the same line-up and Tara was amazing! And yes she is one of the sexiest lead singers in Canada! She has amazing stage presence. This guy beside me yelled ‘take it off’ she said ‘you are disrespecting me, you’re disrespecting woman so shut the fuck up!’
Yeah, she was making fun of the drunks at the show tonight for being pricks as well. She really does have a great stage presence. She made eye contact with a lot of people, including myself, which I’ve noticed a lot of bands don’t tend to do as often. Of course she’s in her home town so it was special tonight, I think. I’m friends with her brother so I would have been able to meet the band had he not been underage. There’s always next time though.
that’s cool, I’ve seen them live twice
Yeah, they are so good live! They certainly sound better live than on CD to me.
I’ve never heard their cds, I just saw them at Edgefest 2001 in barrie, and at another festival, I think Amnesty International’s 30 Anniversary show.
the instrument
Theremin. (That’s the instrument that uses frequencies to emit sound.) Very very fun stuff. 🙂 Jon Spencer does a mean rock theremin.
🙂
Re: the instrument
lol cool. thanks for reminding me what it is called!
It’s Greg
Nyahaha…oy..enjoy yerself Fanboy! 😛
Re: It’s Greg
Fanboy? ouch! 😛
The ‘harp like’ instrument with the antenna that Tara played with her hand and hair is a theramin. Its a old Russian electronic instrument from the late 1800’s, early 1900’s, and is considered one of the first electronic instruments.
Tea Party also use it on ‘Interzone’ from IzM, and on Lullaby when they play it live.
Joydrop ROCKS live, cant wait to see them again 🙂
😀 I can’t wait to see Joydrop again too! Tara is from here in Halifax so I’m hoping they’ll return soon(so I can actually meet them next time).
