Walls rise around me sharply
Above me and circling
Closer with their empty space
The prision of this new cave
This new “home” molds with a void
Too clean, too white, without flaws
Lacking memory and hope
Devoid of deep perfection
Crowding out the sky and stars
Not translucent, long branches
Tall metal and melted sands
Too-deep clouds blinding them all
A white door into the rooms
Where we must live as shadows
Shades of who we are and were
Days ago and years ago
A bare box holding boxes
Empty crates that once held souls
Now hold leaking echos
Calling to what’s locked away
No windows to the green sea
Of leaves, trees and her comfort
Only every thought of her
Echoing softly always
Over distance still I feel
The pulsing and beating heart
Each breath and thought calling me
The thread singing her song still
Longing beyond any words
To be close to her again
A moment more or always
Just one last taste forever
I’m bound by white chains for now
Building strength with persistance
To break free of this cocoon
To gain wings to grant return
