Don’t get Ian Wayne wrong, he appreciates the $155 both he and his wife will be getting from the government, but he thinks the money could have been better spent elsewhere.
“We’ll appreciate getting the money, but we’ve been increasingly concerned about the level of service and user fees now being charged,” Wayne said.
He figures the budget won’t substantially lower his family’s tax bill.
“I can’t say I’m thrilled about the budget,” he said.
Wayne works as a consultant and freelance editor. His wife, Dawn, is a nurse and part-time student. They have a four-year-old daughter, Zoe.
Wayne thinks the government could have done more for working people, children and community economic development.
He doesn’t think the budget puts enough money back into pockets of taxpayers to spur local economies.
“We have mixed feelings. We think we should keep more of the money that we earn but at the same time the province has to take care of its business.
“The province needs to care of sick people, old people, young people. With a daughter in day care and elderly parents, that’s a concern to me,” he said.
Wayne said he worries services could get worse at the same time the government is passing out tax cuts.
“If services deteriorate at the same time that money is sitting in my bank account, I won’t be pleased,” he said.
After a quick look at the promised 10 per cent cut promised in 2004, Wayne is not convinced that will make his family any better off.
“In fact, I think we will be worse off because user fees and the level of service,” he said.
He’s also a little skeptical about the timing of the rebate cheque.
“Maybe it’s just me, but it seems awful funny to be getting a cheque for $155 from a government that at the same time could well be asking for your vote,” he said. “If they want to buy my vote, they’ll have to pay me a lot more than that.”
Wayne said he’ll regard the $310 his family will get in June as a nice way to start the summer.
“Nothing more than that.”
Politicians = Evil
Income up to $29,590 — 9.77% to 8.79% = 0.98%
$29,590 to $59,180 — 14.95% to 13.58% = 1.37%
More than $59,180 — 16.67% to 15.17% = 1.50%
Tax cuts for the rich… oh, how I hate right policies.

well they had it in the blue book that they were going to do this on the 4th year…and it’s the 4th year
but of course they probably planned that from the beginning so it would be near election time
Yes, of course they planned it this way. While they may be corrupt, they do not seem to be stupid.
