Iraq and Afganistan have been two places I’ve been thinking of a lot lately. It must be frightening and fristrating to be occupied in such a way, and to live in such conditions as those people have for years. I would do anything if I thought I could make it easier for those current victims of American imperialism and other man-made evils. I definitely want to become involved in aid work someday. I would feel I was doing something very valuable if I could help to break the cycles of poverty and violence for those people. Until then I will encourage awareness, vote for anti-war parties and donate to charities which combat such evils as war.
Sacha Trudeau’s documentary on his time in Iraq during the war will be aired September 7th on CTV. I’m really looking forward to seeing his account of 40 days and 40 nights theith the Iraqi family he stayed with. Here’s a quote from Mr. Trudeau: “Some people might be afraid of bombs, but it’s too vague, it’s like the wrath of God, it’s something you have no control over.” And from the article: He remains concerned for these gentle, good-humoured people, especially since — as he sees it — the occupying Americans are squandering what good wil they had when they first entered the country. “They wanted Saddam to be gone but they didn’t want the Americans to come in and take him out. It’s the devil you know, that comes into play.”
I think I would like another Trudeau as Prime Minister. They seem to know what’s going on better than most other people.
In my own humble life I worked, I raked berries and now I am sore and tired.
