Monday I met with April in Sunnyside Mall, as is our Moon Day custom. We spent a long time in the mall and Wanda had not arrived. We became worried that something had happened to her or her drive and that she would not be coming in. Eventually she called us and informed us that the car she had sat in to come to the city was currently in Dartmouth. After some confusion we decided that she would meet us at the mall in 20 minutes. A couple hours passed and still Wanda had not graced us with her presence. After we had exhausted our patience with the mall waiting we spotted Wanda walking towards us and rushed to embrace our long absent friend for whom we had waited five hours in a mall for. Any doubt that we are devoted friends was erased!
We caught a bus downtown, where we went to Random Play and then to the Tim Horton’s. We had some minor antics during that time and Wanda lost her wallet for a brief time. It was far shorter than our usual trips to the downtown because of Wanda’s understandable tardiness, but still not shabby.
We came back here to my humble cave and sat around for a while. Ashley called and I talked with her while April and Wanda watched TV. During the call Nathan’s alarm clock started to ring (in the middle of the night) and I eventually walked to his room and turned off the ringing. Sadly, Wanda and April did not like that, because they were dancing to the ring. I was sorry, but it had to be done so that I could talk on the phone without distraction.
After a while Nathan, April, Wanda and I (From now on to be abbreviated as N.A.W.A.) walked to on a new route to the mall near our home, Halifax Shopping Center. We came to a playgorund, where time was taken for swinging and recollections. We wandered to the mall and partook in their midnight madness for a while. We soon had to depart from there and walk April to the bus stop.
Once April had boarded her bus the trio went to the grocery store and picked up so munchies for the trinity of “random happiness” days. On the trip back Wanda discovered an old book on the ground. It was coverless and was deemed to be a Hardy Boys novel by Nathan. Wanda placed it in one of her bags. Upon returning to the cave with the goods we all sat around and watched some T.V., which presented many old music videos that the three of us remembered, but which were new to the poor sheltered Greg (His youth was spent on a diet of only Stompin’ Tom and Weird Al).
We stayed up many hours, and I finally forced sleep upon all of us by turning off the T.V. Such a simple motion of button pressing can make a world of difference. The sunrise had lost the power to tell us we had been up far too late, or at least to induce action.
The next afternoon I awoke and slipped out to the living room where Wanda had been sleeping on the fouton. She awoke and we were soon joined by Nathan, who ate breakfast and then returned to his bed. Wanda and I called April and arranged to meet her at the bus terminal. We donned our cold-wear and dashed through the leaves. We met with April at the terminal and came back to my abode.
We had some smiley fries (which are the most fun you can have with a potato product) and many laughs while we ate them. I would definitely recommend giving them a try when you can gather some adventurous and / or humourous friends for a feast. They were quite filling in addition to their gift of joy.
The first movie we decided to watch during our “movie night” that began in the afternoon was Robin Hood: Men In Tights. It was a dated but enjoyable film. Next came Quest For The Holy Grail, a true classic film that on one should go without watching. The next gem was Rocky Horror Picture Show, a film for those with refined taste and a proper sense of humour. The songs from this film are far too catchy. I do enjoy the first half far more than the second, but it’s quality through it all.
We took a break for food and resting our eyes. During this time we introduced April to HomestarRunner, much to her enjoyment. While everyone crowded around my laptop to watch the zaniness, Ashley called and I escaped to the washroom to talk with her in private for a while.
When I returned N.A.W.A. decided that we must play Jenga and Risk. Rather than play two separate games, we chose to combine the two into a very exciting and enjoyable game of dexterity, strategy and blind luck. It was a challenging match that ended with my toppeling of the tower to come in tied for second with April, behind the beginner’s luck propelled Wanda.
We then dove into the delightful Fight Club. It’s simply a great film that you all need to experience.
Hours of sitting and talking followed, and culminated in one of the most thrilling sounds in all of existance. My roommate Greg has a rather unusual laughter. It’s more of a giggle than a true laugh, but there is no way not to break out into painful, tearful laughter when you hear it. We spent many minutes in a state of laughing uncontrollably. It’s a beautiful thing, and one of the reasons I’m glad to have Greg as my roommate.
In the blissful calm of post-laughing, we all sat in the living room and talked. This continued into the early morning, when Greg retreated to his room. I soon crawled into my own bed and left the other three in the livingroom to find their own way to sleep.
In the afternoon we all awoke and gathered up the momentum to leave for downtown again. We visited Random Play and then ventured over to Einstein’s Clothesline, which is having a going out of business sale. I quickly spotted the styrofoam heads they had used to display wigs and hats that were now on sale for a reasonable price. I snatched up three of them, unaware then of how great an investment it would turn out to be.
A trip to Scotia Square yeilded dinner and a stroll through one of the many around-a-dollar stores that are everywhere these days. After a short stay at Music Stop we made a pun-filled trek to the cave.
Back here Wanda, April and I started to decorate the three heads I had aquired while watching The Matrix. It was a lot of fun to take part in some art, and it brought back a brilliant sense of childhood. April created a lovely 20’s flapper with her head. It’s rather spooky, as it seems to watch you out of the corner of its eyes. Wanda’s head became a big-blue-eyed beauty with a tattoo on the side of her neck, and the word “Swim” on the back of her neck. Swim has personal meaning for Wanda, and she may actually have it tattooed it on her own neck. My own creation was made with a far lesser talent, but I enjoy it none-the-less. Her lips are black at the top and red at the bottom, her eyes are closed, blue eyelashed and leaking a tear, her eyebrows are also blue, she wears a necklace holding a blue stone, and her hair is made of words. The words are an interesting mix, undenyably. Their black and red ink form rivers that include the following mix.

multiple BAM!‘s, thanks to Nathan
The “Freedom Is A Loose Hair” title of this entry is in fact inspired by my use of the word “freedom” to represent a loose hair falling down my head’s forehead.
With the heads complete we finished watching the movie and my two disciples packed their things. N.A.W.A. walked to the bus stop and waited for Wanda’s bus. We talked until it arrived and all hugged Wanda goodbye. Then we hiked down to the bus terminal for April’s departure, but were too late. Thus, we walked around for a while. Nathan treated April and I to Tim Bits as we killed the time. Before long April was on the bus and Nathan and I had returned here.
I mean it in all sincerity that the past three days have been wonderful. Having such a prolonged good time has been so refreshing and welcome. It was like whiplash once Wanda and April had left, as the normal life returned. Things seem so bland without my disciples here to induce good times. I really hope that Wanda will be able to move to the city soon so that we can make our hanging out days far more plentiful. Days like these make life truly worth living!
Being away from the net for a few days was also refreshing. Having great people here in person definitely makes the draw of the internet’s communication far less. I do miss all of those I care about always, but it’s definitely far less when I’m with my disciples.
Finishing this up below the gazes of my trio of heads gives me a strange sense of hope and expectation. There was an ease of community between us all that I’ve very rarely felt, and it’s something I’ll treasure. Words can not express my gratitude for days such as these.
