“Life Is Holy And Every Moment Is Precious”

I finished a large mug of hot chocolate several minutes ago. I haven’t had hot chocolate in months, and I had forgotten how soothing and calming it can be. I must remember to have it more often to warm my soul during this too-cold winter we must live through here in Nova Scotia.
Yesterday, after doing some job hunting, I stopped in at Kara’s Alternative Day Spa for a hair cut. I did this in hope it would aid my desperate search, as employers, for whatever reasons, prefer “normal”. I asked to have my hair cut to above my shoulders and the stylist did just that, though a bit shorter than I had hoped for. Initially it looked quite odd, because it took on the shape of a distinct bob. Needless to say, I was not pleased with it when I returned home. Today, once I had washed it, I was much more happy with how it has turned out. It’s still weird to have my hair this short ( the shortest it has been for 4 years ), but I’m adapting to it as well as I can.
I’ve been as productive as possible this week. The great hunt has continued, though I feel no closer to the elusive prey that I’ve been stalking for months. Time is trickling away though, so it must be caught soon.
Other than continuing the hunt, I’ve been wrapping my days in pages. I rounded up some books I’m willing to part with and placed them for sale on ebay. You can take a look ( and support this poor saviour’s struggles) here. I have tons of good books up there, from Michael Moore, to Terry Goodkind, to Gloom Cookie. I have another pile I hope to add tomorrow and then I’ll have to dig through my boxes to find more to part with. Here’s hoping those books will be going to good homes and that the procedes will help me to continue my existance here.
I’ve also been trying to aquire many of the books in my library in e-book form. I’ve been successful with three series I haven’t finished reading yet That will leave me with an entire shelf of my desk emptied. I plan to store the books on my Clie so that I can read them at any time and save the space of dragging books around with me. It has proved to be a very useful piece of technology, especially when it comes to saving space.
I completed my time spent reading Jack Kerouac’s On The Road Friday night. It was entirely wonderful and readable. After waiting so many years to read it, I was not disappointed at all. I had high expectations and they were all met. It was such a frantic and paradoxical story told so clearly and uniquely. There’s no way to question why this book is considered a classic, and one of the most important books of the last century. It’s undenyably a book everyone should read.
My friend, a lass who happens to be Stranger Than Blue, is sharing some of her songs on a site I’m hosting. You can go listen to them here. They’re worthy of your ear, for sure.
My ears have been filled with the lush sounds of The Smashing Pumpkins tonight. Adore and Machina have been the albums of choice for the evening. I miss hearing new music from this band. I found them later than most and was able to dive into nearly the entire body of work from the beginning of my sincere interest in them (Machina had just been released). Seeing them live definitely impressed me, and that should be especially noteworthy since I also saw Foo Fighters, A Perfect Circle, Our Lady Peace and Finger Eleven in the same day.
The new Incubus video is quite amusing. The imagry is top notch, with flying Hitlers and records being eaten and a Bush-like evil leader figure. The song is quite good as well, with a nice positive Bush-toppling message.
Spider webs in my window make me happy. Frost on it, however, does not. The view from my window is not that exciting. I can see only into the yard of the neighbouring house and a slight piece of the road. I do miss my parents’ home’s window because it had a lovely view of their yard and the surrounding trees.
Much like my dreaming disciple, Sarah, I’m filled with wanderlust. In no small part was this fueled by reading On The Road, which obviously makes me long to see more of the world and to further shed the trappings of materialism. With the option I would of course choose to live wandering. It has long been an aspiration of mine and often directs my choices in ways both obvious and subtle.
