Well, members of the band already know me or know of me. I met Deidre a couple years ago when she was touring with another artist. She was quality. The drummer / pianist left a comment on my public journal when I wrote about Deidre’s other new project, Valley of the Giants.
They just put up the site and are slowly working away at it. I think their priority is recording their EP and album, so an about page may be a while coming.
I’ve been a huge fan of Deidre’s vocals and song writing since I first met her and got the Strawberry (her first band that I know of, which was considered a Maritime supergroup of sorts) album Brokeheart Audio. If you pay attention you’ll notice she’s a history geek and makes plenty of references to this part of the world.
*blinks at the “if you pay attention” … way too much of that sort of thing lately*

I’ve been listening to their stream since I posted … which is saying something; I’ve got a nice selection of links, but her voice has been very nice to type along with.
uhhh … are you saying there /was/ an info page? I looked at a bunch of pages, but saw nothing about the band.
Too much paying attention? I didn’t mean to imply that you don’t, I just was saying that in a general sense.
No, there was no info page that I’m aware of. The site is brand new, so they haven’t fleshed it out much. This is a band that hasn’t toured or released any albums yet, so they will likely take their time getting an info page up.
I’m glad you’re enjoying the stream. Deidre’s voice has a very soothing quality to it, one reason I enjoy all her recordings very much.
I can’t claim to know a great deal about the band, but I’ll run through a bit. Deidre, Scott and Brian are all former members of Strawberry (initially based out of PEI and then from Montreal). Deidre and Scott (and possibly Brian)later formed another short-lived project called Brokeheart and are also members of Valley of the Giants, a supergroup of Canada’s indie elete. Alex is the fourth member and was in a couple lesser known bands before joining The Squarewaves.
K … glad to hear you weren’t t’ing off on me … that’s the sort of line that would be /light weight/ in the “debate” flame. *geez, buncha maggots*
Anyhow, really really pleasant … thanks again.
What I like is that it sounds finished. Not that I’m against “raw”, but this sounds … well, crafted … without being tight.
“Heavy Meadows” is like that (was?) when they’re in the groove. Really pleasant.
I don’t t’ anyone off. I’m just not that sort of person. That debate community seems quite pathetic.
I was actually surprised at how “finished” the songs sound. I haven’t heard new work from Deidre (other than two brilliant tracks for Valley of the Giants) that wasn’t demo quality in quite some time. This group of artists seems to have a good mix of craftsmanship and laid back ease.
I don’t believe I’ve heard anything from Heavy Meadows. What would you suggest I check out?
One doesn’t know who’se liable to do just what in just what situation until after a bit of mileage, yaa?
Is Squarewave gigging?
Heavy Meadows were fairly big (for a local group) on the scene … Dandelion, Danube, Salvation, Bela Muse, Khyber … and Evolve, of course.
Yeah, I suppose so. It’s especially hard to tell what tone someone implies through writing in this form, so it’s understandable.
The Squarewaves haven’t done any gigs that I’m aware of (Unless they did some during the summer. Scott and Deidre told me they were performing in P.E.I. during the summer, but I don’t know which name they were under), but Alex let me know in his comment to my journal that they will have news and tour dates on the site soon.
I will have to look into Heavy Meadows then. My friend Wanda tells me they are good as well.
