I’d like to share drawings done by my longtime friend April and a new friend Heather. I have another friend making artwork based on my visage as well, and I’ll be posting that here if she permits me to. I always find it facinating to learn how others perceive me, and this is one concrete way of seeing that.

They certainly are!
Don’t go giving me a big head, now ; )
ha, I was thinking the same thing!
Compliments are always nice though, aren’t they? : )
Indeed! They’re what make me want to draw more! hehehe
That’s good, practice is so important. I actually gave up on drawing for a few years because of someone constantly putting down my work, and I still feel rusty because of that : /
aw, that’s no good! but you know, I’ve done kind of the same thing… I’m constantly doubting my abilities now š
Want some advice from one creative mind to another?
always! š
Don’t ever, ever, ever give up. Trust me, it is so hard to get back into it once you let things slide. I could show you some really terrible drawings I did when I started trying again. Awful stuff. Practice as much as you can, don’t be afraid to challenge yourself with different techniques and media, and be open to constructive criticism. Ask people whose work you admire for advice and suggestions, and really pay attention to what they say.
Aside from that, don’t listen to anyone who tries to put you down. They’re most likely only doing it because they’re insecure. In my case, the girl who discouraged me was threatened because she thought I had more talent than her, so she made fun of my drawings to make herself feel better. Don’t let anyone do that to you! You just keep doing your thing, no matter what anyone says.
I don’t know if that’ll help at all or not, but I know it helped me to hear it from someone else. She encouraged me to keep trying even though my work really sucked, and I owe her so much for that : )
aw, thanks! That is awesome advice! š
I’m sorry that stupid people made you want to not draw, but I am glad that someone was there to encourage you, too!
I think I’m really my own biggest critic, there isnt anyone really putting me down but me š
Wow, that second one is gorgeous. I love that colour orange, & the shadows on your face.
Yeah, I really enjoy it.
Well, thank you very much! : )
Those are both very nice.
On a completely unrelated note: I think I may have passed you walking on Spring Garden Wednesday night..?
That’s possible. I was on Spring Garden, heading to and then leaving the library.
Was I wearing a terribly funny hat?
I think so. I think you (or whoever it was) were (or was) wearing mostly dark/black clothes.
I dress in all black usually, so that’s a good sign it was me.
Well then, silly me for not saying “hi”. š
Don’t worry about it. I’m terrible at not noticing people when I pass them.
