If I were to get this I’d change my cell phone package to the cheapest so that people could still get in touch with me when I’m away from home and don’t have my laptop on. Basicly, I could pay the same monthly rate for about 5x the minutes or $20 more for unlimited minutes.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Man, sounds expensive. I just use skype. You just buy some Euros to your account and you can call any phone in the world from your computer for something insanely cheap (like, 2 cents a minute, flat rate). Plus PC-to-PC calling is free and it’s pay-as-you-go.
That looks interesting. At 0.03 / minute you’d get 100 / $3 or 500 for $15, only a $5 saving over the worst Vonage plan, though. You’re stuck using a PC, can’t receive calls and use something with an incredibly silly name. Vonage wins for my purposes so far.
one of my co-workers uses vonage and softphone. his one complaint is that you can’t tie the softphone in w/a regular account…so your regular phone and your softphone would have two different numbers. although you can forward and according to him, they’re thinking of rolling the two up eventually.
but for now, he seems to like it ok.
Thanks for sharing that. The forwarding seems easy enough to set up, so I don’t see that as an obsticle. When I’m not home I would just disconnect the adaptor
