Conservative premier John Hamm is stepping down and the Cons have no clear leader to choose. This could be the best thing politically for Nova Scotia if it finally leads to Dexter and the NDP gaining power. My fingers are crossed.

apparently the guy they have in mind is black..an insurance guy. but I agree. dexter all the way.
I just looked it up on Wikipedia. There’s no page or image for him, but the guy I was thinking of is Robert Chisholm. His time is five years past. Shows how hopelessly out of date I am in Nova Scotia politics.
And in NDP provincial politics everywhere, really. I need to catch up. :/

It’s time for a change of government, but let’s face it. Hamm wasn’t a bad premier. The only thing I can think of offhand that I didn’t agree with him about was Sunday shopping, but even that wasn’t so bad. He left it up to the people to decide if we should have it.
I pumped gas for him a few years back. A few times, he even pumped it himself. Show me a politician that will do that in a premier position!
Hamm was an above average Conservative leader, and may have been a nice guy, but his policy was poor in many areas. His education policy was horrible, his energy policy and dealings with such matters as insurance and healthcare were quite poor as well. As for Sunday shopping, his insistance on a vote really hurt the province and has kept us as the only province with a law on when stores can open that directly hurts tourism and other industries that benefit us all. I’ve had a number of people express extreme frustration over the lack of Sunday shopping in the past month and I don’t blame them.
Sunday shopping is pretty useless. I do not believe the ‘tourist’ factor is powerfull enough to complain about. It’s only one day a week, and most tourist-based services (restaurants, boat tours, and the like) are open. Sunday shoping is overrated. I think six more shopping hours is pretty useless in a society that no longer works on the 9-5 clock. I would have no problem if sunday shopping went ahead, but it isn’t that big a deal.
As for education… well, the government of this country will catch on eventually. A system like what Germany has in place would be nice, but until the NDP get into power, I doubt any education reform will happen.

An insurance guy? Just what we need in power when the insurance industry needs serious reform, possibly making it public.
I’m still awaiting word from my friends who may want me as a roommate. I’m hoping to know in the next week.

I wasn’t on the 6 today, only the 2, but I live in that area and was walking around a bit today.
