Captain America: Sam Wilson has an excellent first issue. The series sets up Sam Wilson, formerly Falcon and now Captain America, as working without government backing and taking on political issues head-on. Sam is taking on social ills such as anti-immigrant violence and racism, yes, by punching bigots, but the importance of this shift to a more socially-engaged Captain America is huge. Marvel has been making strides to be a better reflection of today and here is one of the most successful visions of that. I can honestly say I have never been more engaged by a Captain America story and I’m excited to read the next issue.
