This week’s Rachel and Miles includes a review of Uncanny X-Men #600. 600 is an issue that ties up a lot of loose threads in the series and, importantly, had a young, time-displaced Iceman confront his older self about both of them being gay and the elder Iceman not yet being out. That scene was poignant and handled with more grace than might be expected. It’s certainly an example of the way that speculative fiction generally and comics specifically can explore sexuality in ways impossible in other genres.

In the episode Jay Rachel talks briefly about coming out as trans this week (see http://postcardsfromspace.tumblr.com/post/132414301818/in-which-i-achieve-a-state-of-perfect-self-parody). They underscore the value of this exploration in their own reading of the issue, and I think their assessment of the value in deepening Iceman’s character is excellent.
