Tonight I finished the 2011-2014 Daredevil series that had Mark Waid bring Matt Murdock out of the Frank Miller-induced cloud of gloom and tragedy that he had been under for the better part of 35 years. It was a series with a refreshingly lighter tone and through its 36 issues and an annual took Daredevil through new territory and made the character much more accessible. The final arc featured the thrilling confrontation of a racist organization that had spread through the justice system, a fitting group of villains for the lawyer-vigilante. I enjoyed the weird encounters peppered throughout, appreciated the threat created from Foggy’s struggle with cancer and overall enjoyed experiencing the reinvigoration of the iconic character.
