Stack Clean: Magnificent Ms. Marvel #1

I read almost everything digitally now, but I do have a stack of comics I haven’t gotten through. I want to clear them out, so I decided I’d make some artificial accountability for myself to read them by posting about each one. Most of the comics are from a grab bag I got at a local shop, so there might be more than a few that are a slog. I decided to start with an issue I expected to breeze through.

Ms. Marvel is always a fun character to read about and Magnificent Ms. Marvel (2019) #1 is a mostly satisfying read. The superheroics aren’t thrilling (distractingly goofy villains were a let down) but the character moments are really wonderful. As the first issue with Saladin Ahmed writing instead of G. Willow Wilson, it leaves me feeling optimistic for the run if not yet fully on board.

MS. MARVEL IS BACK! But it’s not business as usual in Jersey City. Aliens are wreaking havoc in Kamala’s corner of the world, and they seem weirdly interested in Ms. Marvel – and her family. Eisner Award–winner Saladin Ahmed (BLACK BOLT, EXILES) and rising star Minkyu Jung (Batgirl, Nightwing) take the reigns of one of Marvel’s most beloved new characters! You won’t want to miss this shocking start of a new era!
