Expanded Library Socialism

Library Socialism has become a fascination for me. Its constellation of ideas is very compelling and I think it makes for an easy introduction to socialist ideas by framing the conversation around an egalitarian system that is already at work.

Library Socialism has become a fascination for me. Its constellation of ideas is very compelling and I think it makes for an easy introduction to socialist ideas by framing the conversation around an egalitarian system that is already at work. Libraries are good and more things that work like libraries would be better.

The folks from SRSLY WRONG have done a pair of episodes on other podcasts that include discussions about library socialism and a host of other topics, and they’re well worth listening to.

In the Utopian Horizons episode Inventing The Future & Library Socialism w/ Srsly Wrong, covers a lot of territory over 2 hours, including some fleshing out of the ways library socialism in tandem with automation can create much more freedom for people and create engaged citizens to solve big problems.

I’m joined by fellow utopians Aaron and Shawn from the utopian comedy podcast Srsly Wrong. We talk about the valuable critique and strategies laid out in Inventing the Future, a book arguing for a postcapitalist world without work, and delve into the intricacies of Aaron and Shawn’s own utopian vision: Library Socialism.

The Vegan Vangard episode Building Utopia with SRSLY Wrong has discussions of the ecological impact of library socialism, and touches on animal liberation, revolutions, decolonization, feminism and anti-racism. It’s a wheeling, exciting discussion.

In this episode, Mexie sits down with the Wrong Boys of the SRSLY Wrong podcast to discuss all things utopic! We cover a lot of ground, from social ecology, to library socialism, to Revolution (both material and internal). The Wrong Boys are delightful as always and we hope you enjoy this one!
