Battle Chasers Anthology

I saw ads for Battle Chasers in the late nineties, and was intrigued by the visuals and the fantasy setting but never picked up an issue. I finally got Battle Chasers Anthology to give it a shot.

There is a lot to like in the book; Joe Madureira’s art and Liquid Graphics’ colouring are both top notch. There were character moments that were brought beautifully to life and there was a lot of promise in the unfinished mystery of the series.

The cheesecake art for Red Monika was glaring and definitely took away from the story. There were overblown moments and art choices that seemed to exemplify the excesses of 90s comics, and series ended mid-story on a cliffhanger and was never finished. Even with those flaws, I’m glad I finally gave it a read.
