The Magic on Mt. Hiraya by Viel Vidal is a ghost story about unrequited love. There are some charming moments, some clever parallel storytelling, and some decidedly awkward moments. There’s plenty to like in the art and story choices, but there’s also a lot to cringe at in the ghost’s creepy behaviours.
An entity shows up in a girl’s room while she’s sleeping there and they somehow become friends. The next morning, the entity gets visions of events and then they set off on a road trip and a hike up Mt. Hiraya to solve the mystery of the entity’s existence with the help of a wish or two.
