Nathan and I hopped in a bus bound for Barrington St. We went to No Record Store to exchange the Square LP I had which was warped on delivery for a fresh copy. Then we walked around to a few stores, braving the cold.at a used book store I picked up two Anne McCaffrey novels for change. Next was Phreak Lunchbox, where I picked up a Payday and Mounds for a snack to fill my belly and fortify against the bitter cold. We footed down to Scotia Square and had some A&W. Then back on up to Sam the Record Man…
When we went in Buck 65 was browsing through the records and was talking to a friend about getting the new Marianne Faithful(sp?) album. Nathan and I walked around the store lots and looked at all the albums. I was strong and held back on buying about 100 CD’s that I need like a junkie needs a fix.
Eventually, after hanging with the crowd for a good while, Buck took the mic. He opened with Phil, which is apparantly based off a traditional Philipino song. Next he talked about the importance of music and how most people don’t treasure it anymore. Yeah, Buck’s on the same page as me. Music is sacred. In his short set he talked more, played “Shoes” or Craftmanship(which is a great song that will hopefully be on his new album in September), Stella, a song he refered to as Dad(it’s about his father and mentions his flame-thrower snow removal tactics), and a random song about the ballet box. It was great, as every Buck performance is. I got a couple photos of Mr. ’65 Buick Riviera.
Post-show we were among the first in line to talk to Buck and have him sign albums. When Nathan talked to him he played his phone’s ringer for Buck. He put Stella in it as a ringer some time back and Buck got a real kick out of it, passing the phone around to the band. He signed all of Nathan’s linernotes and then it was my turn to step up. I passed him the stuff to be signed and talked about Angie hooking him up with the tour and about the pass tomorrow night… He said it’s all taken care of, he thinks, anyway.
on my liners he wrote the following:

Buck 65 is quality a person. Very down to earth and overall a very nice guy.
On the way out I grabbed some Buck 65 post cards to give to friends. So ask and I’ll send them your way.
Nathan and I hopped on another bus and came home. I called Ashley and now I’ve written this.
๐ Sadly, the flowers I ordered for her(intentionally in advance so they would arrive on time and be as perfect as possible) have yet to show up at her door, so that’s very annoying.
Tonight and tomorrow involves some serious Java programming and then tomorrow night is Buck 65 at the Attic.
๐ I don’t think I can make the PEACE MARCH tomorrow because of the project I need to finish. That’s quite depressing since it’s something I definitely want to be a part of and feel an obligation to the cause of opposing the war.
Please take part if you can. I’ll be there in spirit, and I’ll never give up the fight. Go read my fellow Nova Scotians: http://hfxpeace.chebucto.org
