Canada is now being considered by the American powers for the deployment of RCMP personnel in Iraq, the Secretary of state has deemed us worthy to keep the peace after the USA devastates the place. I am caught between cheering and puking.
Our government has no choice but to accept this proposal and fulfill our historic psychological need to be the peacekeepers and nice individuals, for better or for worse.
There is a reason for this sudden American interest in Canada of course, they naturally assume the Iraqis will hate us less; this might well become the stumbling block to us participating in this venture. The Americans are about to discover how little outside help Iraqis want and that could include even us well meaning Canadians.

This is an interesting turn of events. Certainly the RCMP is far more capable of keeping peace in Iraq than American troops, but I think it would be a dangerous move to accept too readily. It may redirect anger against American invaders to peace keeping Canadians and make Canada a target for terrorists. It may also help justify the American invasion by having Canadians clean up the mess. Then again, it would certainlty be better for Iraqis to have less American inflences in their country. Anyone have an opinion?

erm. i never know what to think..i start thinking..and then i’ll be like….yeah..that’d be a good idea..but at the same time..its hard to justify…yet…i think that we’d be better than americans ’cause we’ve managed to stay out of the actual conflict stuff…which would make it easier to help out and stuff…erm..
oh yeah…i had a question i wanted to ask you 🙂 do you know of any sites that have like…pictures of human rights stuff? victories moreso than faliures…if possible..my chapter of amnesty int. is helping out with an arts/cafe night (poetry, readings, singing, musical stuff and of course…coffee and dessert :)) and our theme is human rights – and my friend adam and i are doing a slideshow…so i was just wondering if you knew of any sites that might be helpful in finding pictures? we’ve been looking..but without *much* success thus far..
