Aging and Brevity

Harvesting the berries has been going about the same as it did in the first days. It quickly becomes boring, but I keep my mini disc player with me so that I do not lose my sanity to the hum of the motors. The one thing that may cause me to go out of my mind is the ruckus of the damn kids who have no work ethic and no sense of proper work behaviour. I’m becoming an old man, surely, but it fits.

Brevity is beautiful, but also necessary.

    1. I don’t know if you know them or not. They’re all Up. Musq. people… a Shawn, John, Cory, and John… Shawn Grahame (how the hell do you spell that last name?) is also working with us. It’s a lovely bunch.

        1. I don’t know Cory’s last name. He’s the best worker out of the slacker bunch. Brandon also works with us. He’s the hardest working, most mature of the young cats.

  1. LOL! I picked strawberries for ten summers since I was 11. When I was 14 I could easily make $500 a summer if I went day & night. I went strawberry picking this past summer & it felt like my back was going to split in two by the first day. Aside from the back pain & difficult positions I find the monotony is the worst to endure. & usually the people who I picked near were uneducated idiots who’s every 4th word was an obscenity, but I guess it’s best that they were being productive & not running around aimlessly causing trouble. I hope you make some money!

    1. I don’t mind obscenities at all, as long as there’s some intelligence behind it. If something of meaning is being said, the particular words don’t matter.

I’ll make a bit of money. Three weeks (no days off at all) or 12-14 hour days should provide a bit of money. I’m not doing manual picking, but rather using a harvester, so I’m paid hourly.
