Domains

Does anyone remember when domain names were expensive? When I first got FrozenTruth.com three years ago I believe I paid $25-$30 / year. Today I renewed my domain for $8, straight from my bank account. What a change 3 years has brought in pricing.

I’ve been thinking of adding another domain pointing to my host (I pay $5 / month for way more space and bandwidth than I use, even with friends’ domains being hosted as well). I’ve been wanting to put together a project that would promote sincere community online for some time (something I’ve long been interested in, especially as it develops in outward facing sites). I don’t know if I’d provide an actual service, like a wiki or forum or if I’d just create a collection of links and writings pointing people toward community facilitating tools. What do you folks think? Has this been done elsewhere already to a satisfactory level and I’m just not aware of it?
