Grania + Roth [I: Beginnings]

Waking Dust

Waking with the ringing sound

Of a song I once held dearest

Though I try to turn around

Its a call I can’t now resist

Another grey sun I face

Pulling on the perfect old rags

Consuming each bitter trace

Seeing fools wearing binding tags

Escaping through this worlds door

Into a landscape as empty

As the one the heart-blind search for

knowing there’s nothing left to be

Walking roads of choaking dust

Breathing air of isolation

Seeking out the river’s trust

To empty heart’s desolation

First Drowning

Stepping into the cool shadows

Beneath the blackened underside

Of the dark coal bridge’s shelter

A slight sancutary beneath

An unexpected voice startles

Though sweet, it inspires quick flight

Leaping forward from the round rocks

Dropping through the air helplessly

Swallowed by the river’s hunger

Fast moving water pulling down

Forcing direction to be lost

Moving against all force mustered

Breath held tightly is drawn outward

As the many moments burn away

Thoughts all obscured by survival

Cold water flowing into lungs

A rock sends deep, red pain through skull

Cutting consciousness to one thread

Before red deepens to pure black

Welcome arms quickly encircle

Rising against the swift motion

Lifted gently with urgency

Breaking the surface and coughing

At last losing all consciousness

[————————————–]

Breath of Sight

The voice weaving through the air

A whisper of penetrating concern

Familiar and clearly new

A thread cutting deep to heal deep, broad wounds

Eyes flicker over water

Moving ice in its too-bright, blinding haste

Cooling shadows wash the eyes

Breath lost to flooding now replaced by awe

Fine, brown strands drip as syrup

A sweet static stream following the curves

Down cheeks, chin, neck and shoulders

Seeping into the loose, deep blue below

Darkened by clear light, it clings

A close, thin, cloudless sky of woven thread

Seeds on winds softly collide

New white, bursting stars on the soft, strong height

Eyes at last rise and lock still

Welcoming liquid flame, leaves crystalized

A cool dark tunnel centered

Leading to the essence of everything

Singing The Threads

Voices and words hover and drift

Popping bubbles on fingertips

Sounds with slight echos match our thoughts

An emerging song’s first heard notes

A familiar and unknown name

Voiced emotions seep out quickly

Silence pushed aside for first truths

Reflected back with clarity

Voices now weaving together

Into a moving, pulsing cord

Blue and green, twisting and melting

A thread of inate compassion

The air between rippled with heat

Light breifly hitting a clear strand

Encircling for a moment

What we both feel is pulling us

Words flow freely from soul to soul

Causing roots to lengthen and hold

Onto the rich soil of like hearts

Drawing more strength from souls to grow

One forever-thread floating still

On the breeze of sunset and noise

Moves freely to the first goodbye

A promise of each new first light

Awake Moments Later

Will my eyes never close now?

Can I ever fall asleep

With the crashing waves of you

Flowing around in my head?

It’s not been more than hours

Yet I yearn to have you near

To feel the soft breeze around

As when your voice brushed my ears

Now there’s emptiness within

Without you inside my heart

Filling with hope and wonder

Every open cave of mine

It hasn’t been that long yet

Since I saw the light you hide

Somewhere deep within your soul

But I pray to see your eyes

Thoughts disolve the sleep I need

Tiredness means nothing though

Aching and longing are more

With this void for them to fill

The waves seep slowly from eyes

A slow, inverted ocean

Flowing back into rivers

Fading coldly as they fall

Where have you been hidden now?

You were all I could see then

Now I cling to memories

Of the moments that just passed

Sleep drifts into me at last

The white clouds of sleep whisper

Nothing but your ringing name

Echoing as drops of rain

[————————————–]

Windows and Hallways

A light shadow in the window

Sheilding from the brightening sun

Waking eyes behind tight closed lids

Lowering a mind back to sleep

Soft tapping fingers shake the glass

The sound pulls curtains from his eyes

As his vision clears, Roth sees her

Perched on the limb of an old oak

True smiles appear as reflections

A mere beat of light separates

The easy movement of deep drops

Collectors of the scattered light

He lifts the pane and she crawls in

Her warmth filling his room and mind

Hands and eyes, fingertips and thoughts

Voiceless messages fly between

A silent house withdraws from them

Moving the cold, closed rooms away

Only a cloud of sunlight stays

To hold the two locked in embrace

The sweetest voice radiates out

Swift from her mouth toward his ears

A fresh whisper energizing

Thier lips freeing only two names

Grania and Roth, the words echo

And ripple with the unspoken

As walls reappear around them

They open the door to hallways

Our River

Floating in this slower river

Clothed in its cool, swirling fabric

Blocking the too-hot fire drops

Streaming from the dry sun above

Drifting without a direction

Our arms around each other’s back

Keeping us from moving apart

Even slowly in the current

The cool dark of the bridge above

Moves over us and eyes open

To the blue-black calm surrounding

To the brittle fire-licked pillars

Arms as fluid as the water

Pulling closer in the dim light

Fingertips as subtle as well

In their eddying and soft flow

Lips as surf bubbles colliding

Gentle yet deeply explosive

Breaking to breathe for a moment

Then reforming more rapidly

Emerging back into the heat

Too soon to maintain the new robes

Both cooled and heated by water

Together melting into shade

[————————————–]

Green Walk

Walking slowly in the green shade

The cool of a blistering summer

Around us like a soaking rain

Breathed in, it lightens soul and bodies

Connected by two hands, in sight

By souls and all we will breathe, in truth

Bare feet slowly press the damp moss

Bare souls weave through the leaves and their limbs

The green glow lights your perfect face

While we sit and let words spill freely

Dripping into our opened ears

Complementing our eyes’ deeper song

When the sun rises high above

We turn from orange light to linger

In the closeness of this midday joy

Moss a pillow, arms a blanket close

As lids fall, flowers’ scent flows in

On a breeze warm with the petal-wings

Sleep entering a grove in soft motion

Swirling around the only breathing

[————————————–]

Heart-Grove

Rest deep with in my heart here

Where you’ll always be welcomed

Where a home for you I’ll keep

Until my arms can hold you

An open grove of protective love

In the forest of my growing heart

Softest moss for your slumbering

Soft light to show your beauty

The deep burning of my soul

Will be the fire to warm you now

And the calm breeze of my love

To bring you scents of restfullness

From all storms may branches shelter

Your sacred, perfect, glowing soul

When burning sun would sear you

May you find green shade abundant

In deepest night, moon-lit we lie

Taking comfort in the stars above

Though not as bright as the light

Leaping from our tight-locked eyes

And as we drift along to sleep

As close as my every aching thought

This circle of whitest birch

Our home beyond the waking world

[————————————–]

Well

With a white moon above us

Cold water and grey stones

Lending us their momentary

Protection from the world

Sinking deeper into calm

Flickering eyes now closed

Mouths opened, breaths shared

Webs of moon-lit hair aflame

Nothing between, water around

Holding on to the embrace

Of the promised, witnessed end

To the first leaves of time

Slow movements in the silence

Hands joining, combining heat

Fingers clasping, ever willing

The parting to never come

Though as the hours drip away

The moon it leaves, darkening

And the encroaching dawn emerges

To shatter the moving dream
