A Finch, Pain and Distractions

Work was uneventful, as usual, except for one incident as I was about to leave. Before I closed the garage door I noticed something flying in the rafters of the motor home section. Upon closer inspection I discovered it was a grey and white female finch that had somehow flown into the garage and become confused. I attempted to provide her with a proper exit, but she was unable to find her way out. I left the door open when I left, in hopes she will make her way out in time.

Last night and today I read further in the two books I am currently absorbing. I happened to read a but more than I had intended in my planning, but it seemed wise to advance at this double-pace.

I finished the lengthy introduction of Meditation & Dreamwork, which helped me to understand the goals and focus of the book, which were a bit unclear to me at first. I will next begin the section of that book dealing with meditation.

In The Tao of Inner Peace I read through chapters five and six. The former touched on self-acceptance, self-esteem, going beyond appearances, breaking down walls, negative monologues, the power of positive thinking, and openness. The latter focused on facing fears, avoiding panic, taking control of fear through foresight, identifying danger, fear of the unknown, overcoming fear of change, exploring consequences, destroying hierarchies (not becoming followers or leaders, but equals), building peace with compassion, and trusting in the process (not worrying about outcomes, but living in the now of doing)

Affirmation:
I now know my life is peaceful and harmonious.
I love myself.
I accept myself.
I am one with the Tao.
I am open and honest.
I have nothing to hide.
I respect myself and the process.
I trust the process.
I look to the larger cycles.
I face my fears and learn from them.
I respond with wisdom and compassion.
I take positive action.
I harmonize with nature and all others in my world.
I accept greater peace in my life now.
And so it is.

I attepted to meditate twice this evening. After about 20 minutes of the first meditation I was interrupted by my father asking me to help him outside. The second meditation was invaded with the sound of my mother vaccuming upstairs. Even with earplugs I can not seem to find the physical peace here that I need to develope a consistant pattern of meditation. I will definitely be much more at ease with the peace of my cave on Saturday.

On Sunday, the day after I return to the city, there will be a BookCrossing meetup at 11 a.m. in the Second Cup on Spring Garden Rd. I’m definitely considering going to it. I was invited by another user of that site today, and I think it would be a positive experience to get out and meet some fellow book worms.

Here’s part of the e-mail:

Just look for the pile of books on the table! 🙂 We usually just sit around for a while, talk about books, swap and trade (guaranteed catches!) and suck back a coffee or three!

I’m listening to The Trews’ House of Ill Fame, and I must say I’m still impressed by this debut. I will certainly be looking forward to seeing them live on the 20th (it’ll be time 7 or 8, I believe). They will be headlining in a couple years, I have no doubt of that.

Here’s an obvious fact: I do not enjoy waking up at 6:30 a.m.
