WILLIAM HUNG may not be RANDY, PAULA, or SIMON’s favorite performer, but ever since the “American Idol” judges cut him from the running, the 21-year-old college student has, so far, become more of a household name than any of this year’s finalists.
“I get recognized everywhere,” Hung says. “It doesn’t matter where I go, I’ll probably get recognized.”
On tonight’s ET, William takes a trip to the aptly named Fantasy Studios in California to get singing lessons and a few tips from ERIC VETRO — voice coach to the stars.
“It was obvious he’s never done this before,” says Vetro, who has trained everyone from the GOO GOO DOLLS to SHIRLEY JONES of the “Partridge Family.” “So when they asked me to do this I thought it would be quite a challenge. However, he was so earnest and he had such passion for what he was doing that I couldn’t say no.”
The engineering student and RICKY MARTIN fan jumped at the chance to be in a real recording studio. “I’m astounded,” he says. “I’ve never been to a prestigious studio like this. I am very excited. It is a great opportunity to start improving.”
“We have a lot of ground work to cover in a short amount of time,” says Vetro. “I’m just going to see what improvements I can make so that his performance could be better than it was on ‘American Idol.'”
William says he has realistic expectations but does have a few things he knows he wants to work on. “I’m just hoping to improve on the basics of singing,” he says. “In particular, pronunciation, breathing and pitch.”
