Currently, I live in Halifax, the capital city of the province Nova Scotia, which is part of Canada. I’ve called Nova Scotia home all my life, and I grew up in the rural community of Dean. Living here has shaped who I am more than I could express, but I consider myself to be a rover, as I am always filled with wanderlust and the experiences I’ve had in other parts of the world have been of great importance to me as well.All of my life I have been enchanted by books and stories. I believe they offer a great wealth of experience and knowledge that we would be hard pressed to find without them. I’ve read mostly fantasy for the past decade, but I find that I’m branching out now into other areas that are becoming increasingly interesting to me. History and spirituality are among the new areas I feel drawn to.
I have a great love of music. I listen to a wide variety of music genres, from jazz to celtic and from rock to eclectic. Music is highly motivating and enlightening for me, and thus I include it in any aspect of my life that I can. It’s rare for me to go long without listening to music in some form.
The role I’ve embraced most is that of a writer. I write because it brings me great joy and satisfaction to be able to express my ideas and to have an outlet to share my thoughts. Though I surely am not a highly skilled writer, I love the act of writing, and will continue to write all my days.
I’m an evolving soul. I’ve chosen to take a wandering spiritual path that incorporates aspects of various systems of belief. I always wish to be learning and experiencing new spiritual changes. My personal experiences and the teachings of others have lead me to a path of the divine, and I will tread it with care and enthusiasm. A patchwork spiritual quilt suits me best because I have never been able to reconcile conflict I’ve had with most religions’ teachings. Change, compassion and evolution are my constants.
I strive to be as compassionate as I can. I believe in the virtues espoused by egalitarianism, philanthropy and socialism and try to promote them as much as I can, both in myself and in others. I am of the belief that it is our duty as residents of this world to do all we can to make it a better world for all.

How well do you know Halifax? Have you visited before, or will leaving for university be the first time?
I went to Dalhousie (the larger university that surrounds King’s) for a couple years. My sister actually goes to King’s herself. If you need any help finding your way around or someone to hang out with I’m sure one of us could help.

I haven’t been to Halifax since I was about 10 years old… so I don’t remember much about it. I only hear good things, though. Well, except for the stories about the damage the hurricane did. So unfortunate.
I was accepted to Dalhousie, actually. I was going to take psychology, but I decided King’s (for FYP) was the better option for me. I’m pretty excited.
What did you study at Dal, if you don’t mind my asking?
And does your sister like it at King’s?

I’m quite boring myself, and I tend not to find people who claim to be boring to actually be so. I’m sure I’ll enjoy reading your entries.
The syndication isn’t high-tech, it’s just the result of me being lazy and not wanting to make posts to LJ as often as I update my site.
I studied computer science for two years before realizing I couldn’t stand to do it for a living. I’m much more inclined toward writing and art-related things, but I don’t believe I have the talent to make a living at it. Thus, I’m in limbo and looking for a job at the moment. If that fails I intend to become a hobo.
My sister finished her FYP this year and she seemed to like the school quite a lot.

Good luck with the writing and art; just from what I’ve seen in your journal, it looks like you definitely have a shot as a writer.

I feel I know far too few people in this city, so I’d be sure to make an effort to run into you if you’d like.
The hobo ambition is a bit to sincere for most people to understand. I love the idea of whittling down my possessions so that I could live travelling like that. I’ll stick to the writing no matter what. I can’t see it as any good though.

Actually, the hobo thing is something I’ve considered quite seriously, too.
I’ve always felt guilty about having so many posessions when there are so many people who have so little, and I love to travel, so the hobo lifestyle would be rather fitting for me. (Wow, I said “so” four times in that sentence… impressive.)
However, now I’m thinking that it might be better to make some money so I can actually help the less fortunate. I don’t know… it’ll work out somehow.
Expect me to take you up on that “running into” offer in the fall. 🙂

Yeah, it’s a tough line to walk when it comes to wanting to help people but also not compromise what you feel passionate about. I figure that if I can become a hobo I’ll be more inspired to write, possibly produce something worthy of publishing and then share the profits from that.
