Monday night I accepted a job in Halifax that I will start on Saturday. It seems like a job I will enjoy and one that will provide for me amply. I’ll be working as a night watchman at an old, vacant hotel. If ever there was a proper setting for a ghost or horror story, it’d be there. I sure hope I’ll be working Halloween night.
I was given little time to secure a place to live in the city and otherwise make plans for moving and starting work, so I’ve been very busy and stressed for the past couple days. It’s been a mix of excitement at the prospect of being back in the city and working a new job and anxiety over finding a place to live. Remembering to take the time for meditation today helped a great deal to ease the anxiety and to allow myself to accept the conditions I’m facing.

I have changed my verdict on working Halloween night. I think I would rather go see Matthew Good, Limblifter and Auf Der Maur at The Marquee Club. I would love the chance to see three of my favourite bands performing live. It’s been months since I last saw a live concert. Withdrawls have been painful.

did you find a place yet?
Nothing confirmed, but I’ll view a couple tomorrow.
Oooooh that sounds like such a supercool job! It just reminded me of the hotel on “Angel”. I don’t know if you’ve ever watched that show. But anyway congrats and good luck! Hope you get to see your show!
It should be interesting for the first while, anyway.
I don’t think I ever saw Angel. What was it about?
Thanks. I hope I’ll be able to see it too.
I hope I’ll be able to!
Hooray for the job!
I’m glad things are beginning to fall into place for you.
AUF DER MAUR!!! *is jealous*
Well, I will be working that night, sadly, so no concert for me.
However, I now have a nice place to live, so I’m happy.
:hugs:
have a safe move and my thoughts will be with you as you get things settled in Halifax.
oooh Matthew Good! Auf Der Maur! that sounds fantastical! hope you get to go!
I now have a quite nice place to live in Halifax. It’s about a stone’s throw from the hotel I’ll be working at, has hardwood floors, plenty of space and is supposed to be quiet… has trees all around it, yet is really close to shopping places. I really, really like it. I have 3 closets now for refugee Americans, plus a largeish living room.
My job is sounding rather nice. I may have internet access on the job (there’s at least a computer for me to use) and a big screen tv that I’ve been encouraged to use with a VCR or gaming system (I don’t have either yet). I only do rounds for about 20 minutes each hour, so I’ll have a lot of down time.
Sadly, I will be working Sunday night, so the concert will be out. 🙁
Your job sounds very similar to my brother David’s except that he doesn’t do rounds (he works at the desk) and he got stuck with the graveyard shift. He watches Direct TV all night or reads and they told him to bring along a gaming system or a laptop if he wants (he still can’t afford a laptop, but is looking forward to it so that he can work on his novel while on his shift).
The downside is that I can’t listen to loud music during the day because that’s when he sleeps.
*is sad about the concert*
*is overjoyed by the closets for refugee Americans*
I actually prefer working at night. I’m a night person, so it suits me.
It is sad about the concert, but I may have my friend Wanda inform Melissa of my wish for her to marry me. 😉
Yes, there will be plenty of room in closets and other parts of my apartment. More than I’ll know what to do with, surely.
