Today is the first day of Vegan Month of Food 2015. As part of the event, each day is given a prompt for posts across various social media venues.

Today’s prompt is:

Rise and Shine! It’s MoFo time! Tell us about your breakfast.

For the past few weeks my breakfasts during the week have been big glasses of Soylent. Soylent is a vegan drink that aims to offer complete nutrition through a steadily developing series of formulas that include algal oil, soy protein, and a host of low-footprint ingredients. It’s a project I followed with interest for a long while but finally decided to try once the formula switched from vegetarian to vegan.

The current version is delivered as a powder that is mixed with water and chilled. It takes a couple minutes in the evening to make and is ready for me to down before I run out the door in the morning.

Soylent has a mostly neutral taste, with the closest similar taste being a cross between bread and soy milk. It has become an acquired taste and I’ve set aside my initial thoughts of mixing it with flavouring. It’s satisfying on its own.
