Since last November I’ve been playing through each of the Pokémon regions again. I’m now about half way through Pokémon Ruby, a game I missed when it first came out and am only now getting to experience. So far it has been fun to roam through Hoenn again.
I played Pokémon Crystal on my 3DS all the way through, but for Ruby I’ve been moving my save file between my phone, an EZ-Flash Omega on my GBA and DS Lite, and an emulator on a Switch. That has kept the play through feeling fresh as I’ve been able to use the system that was best for the situation.

My time for games has been limited lately, but I did manage to continue Pokémon Ruby and finish by playing as I walked to and from work or in those few times I was able to sit and game.
Hoenn was a bit less intuitive to navigate than Kanto and Johto, but that might just be from playing games set in those regions more often. One of the best parts was exploring at the same time that Pokemon World Tour was going through the region.
Overall I enjoyed revisiting the third generation, but I have to admit I’m looking forward to playing the DS and 3DS games on my 3DS as I move through the next four the regions.
I plan to take a detour south of Kanto and Johto before moving on to Sinnoh, though. The Orange Islands await.
