Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds‘ new album Ghosteen is haunting, beautiful and heartbreaking. Nick Cave tends to unblinkingly look at ugliness lyrically, and that has brought forward truly great songs. But here there is more wonder, more tenderness and more sympathy on display. The vocals have more range and the arrangements are more bare and affecting. I love so much of what Nick Cave has done in the past, but this feels, after only a couple listens, like something significantly better.
